NewEgg.com Engaging in Tax Resistance Civil Disobedience?

One of my absolutely favoritest businesses is NewEgg.com. For those that don't know, they sell computer parts and as a geek, it's as close to that proverbial "candy store" that kids get excited about going to.

New York passed a law earlier this year that's become known as "The Amazon Tax" that makes any online retailer with "affiliates" (click the ads on my website!) in the state of New York required to collect and remit NY Sales Tax. In the beginning, NewEgg.com collected this tax, but sent an e-mail to subscribers that "due to overwhelming feedback from our customers" they would immediately stop collecting sales tax for New York bound orders.

This could be a really good thing if NewEgg is in fact simply resisting the taxes. Amazon and Overstock.com have both filed lawsuits, and it might be possible that NewEgg is not going to comply in the hopes that the law will be oeverturned. There's also the possibility that they are actually remitting tax to NY, just not itemizing it and eating those taxes as a "cost of business".

I made a blog post on my site about this and am asking for people who support NewEgg to contact them and say so. Their online feedback form is here

I'm still trying to get ahold of a company spokesperson to see if this is actually resistance, but much larger media outlets are being told "No comment" so I doubt I'll get any response, but I'll keep trying!
