Cool  :) ... I wonder how much more fuel it produces than it uses.

Pat McCotter

Cool Lloyd! Thanks for the site link!

I can't believe that you didn't find it before I did, Pat ;D

I just noticed that when the gas process is finished the cooking tank is full of charcoal, which is excellent for many things.

For a second I thought it was going to be a picture of a little kid's backside. :D

That 30's American 'Can Do' spirit!

The "Can Do" spirit would just cook the coffee over the burner or canned heat that is used to heat the retort, without all the wasteful conversion.

Charcoal is best made in a self-fueling retort: you light a fire underneath it just long enough to start the combustible gas flowing, and then that gas is burned to keep the process going. When the gas runs out and stops burning, the wood inside has been reduced to charcoal.

I don't know why this thread brought this memory back, but I remember watching reruns of "Leave It to Beaver" when I was a kid.  Living in a very rural area I escaped most of the police state mandates, but the episode where the Beave got caught driving his gocart on the street upset me very much.  I guess I was about 10 or 11 and by that time I had been driving for a couple years.  Thats pretty much what happened to our country, pioneer spirit combined with mechanical knowhow is now "dangerous" without the blessing of the state and their "permits".

Although if I ever did build a stratification woodgas generator, it would probably be a secret.
