Wow.  Talk about ridiculous!  People are so desperate that they are wiling to trade in "assault rifles" for $200 when they are probably worth 800-2000 or more depending on what they are?

Easy way to disarm a very desperate public ... shame on them!

I'm guessing that most of these firearms are kind of worthless judging from the fact that they were bragging about a soviet era semi-automatic firearm that was turned in... heck I think I paid $200 for my never-been-fired SKS.

One thing's for sure, Los Angeles County is among the last places you want to be living right now, or anytime in the foreseeable future.

QuoteThe annual drive started in 2005 after a spike in killings, though the murder rate had since dropped.

Program must be working time to expand it!

As I was driving away, my car packed with everything I owned, the rest having been either shipped or liquidated so I could move to NH, I looked back and saw the band playing on as the county sank into the cold dark ocean.

We should compete with them.

Offer $300, get folks to bring their firearms, and turn any away that are junk.  Re-sell the good ones for more than $300.  Then, we will have money for more guns and ammunition for ourselves! :)

Quote from: zaphar on December 10, 2008, 12:53 AM NHFTWell, I guess I wont be buying anything from Bestbuy or Target in the foreseeable future, especially Target. They aren't red all over for no reason...

Are they actually "in league" with this, or did the gov't goons just buy and then trade gift cards?  The stores might not have had anything specific to do with it.  Or they might have been in on it from day one.  I'd be curious to know.

This is amusing, though: "If that got into the wrong hands of gangbangers, they could kill several people within minutes"

With "minutes," you could kill "several people" with very little by way of weapon...

Ah.  Missed that line, down at the end.  I think I was laughing too hard at the line I quoted, by then...

With a gallon of gasoline you could kill "several people" (probably several dozen) within "minutes".

The gangbangers line reminded me of another hilarious "news" article about guns from the past couple of days: "If they were stolen, they could wind up in the hands of criminals."

Uh, 'scuse me, but if they are stolen, aren't they de facto in the hands of criminals already?
