OK, Russell, I'm really trying! The $200 target is almost impossible to hit on a new PC. But here's a build for $250 $225 that may work for you:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition 2.6GHz Processor
ATX Mid Tower Case with 400W Power Supply
2 GB DDR2 667MHz Memory
500GB SATA Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 onboard video (512MB shared)
PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports
4 rear USB ports; 2 front USB ports
Front and rear audio jacks
RS-232 serial port
10/100 Ethernet port
2 PCI and 1 PCI Express x16 expansion slots
NO substitutions on the above components.

Fedora 9 pre-installed for your convenience

Note there's no optical drive here. I can add a DVD burner at build time for $25 or you can bring your own.

This offer's open to the rest of you as well, but only until Monday. available at $225 until 11/30.

that sounds really cool
I am still thinking I will want a little laptop after Christmas, but if not ... I could have you build me whatever you have available at that time. :)

DO NOT buy a computer on Black Friday! You will get ripped off. Instead, bring me the ad for the computer you're looking at, so I can match or beat it.

Please note: Orders need to be placed by December 16 for guaranteed delivery before Christmas.

I went out to Worst Buy just to see what they were charging people to get ripped off this holiday season. It's absolutely insane. Fools lined up around the mall camped out waiting to get screwed. Some of their prices are easily double what I can do and still make money.

Black Friday computers are for people who only buy based on price, and don't know the difference in specs. When you actually spec them out, they're ripoffs.

There are some exceptions, like NewEgg selling a 15" Macbook Pro for under $1500 ($500 savings), but people who shop newegg.com tend to know what they're looking at.

Newegg had a few really good deals but most of it was crap. Almost not worth staying up all night for.

What's your opinion of woot.com?

JonM

woot has occasionally some stuff for good prices that I actually desire to have.  Very occasionally.

How much are you taking for labor?

Now that's a very rude question.

sorry
I don't see what's rude about it.  What's wrong with asking for the breakdown between parts and labor?
