Okay, here is my latest response.

QuoteFirst off, I think you meant secede, not succeed. But that happens to us all.

You can learn about the real Lincoln (Not the hero worship, pop culture version.) in this book.

Or read chapter eight of

Lincoln did cause the hostilities by raising huge tariffs on the south. This impoverished the southern states and fueled the secession fervor. The war was about the states right to secede. States joined the Union voluntarily, but Lincoln didn't think they had the right to leave the Union voluntarily. So he helped start a bloody and brutal civil war.

I know it may be hard to believe, but the history you where taught in school and that you see in popular culture is wrong.

Thanks for the help folks.
We'll see what he has to say.

"I know it's hard to believe..."  ;D

Don't tell me you're a Civil War "Truther" now!

Puke

His reply.
QuoteYes I mean secede, sorry, one starts to hit next so fast on spell
check and forgets to double check.  Second,  you completely avoided my
point that the south started actual hostilities.

Also, how can you argue that Lincolns high tariffs fueled the flames
of secession when secession started on December 20 1860 and Lincoln
was inaugurated in March of 1861? The math just doesn't add up?

I don't think it was Lincoln's tariff. Did you direct him to the link by Jaqeboy about the lies surrounding "the first shot"? It's long, unfortunately, but it's so crucial to the situation at the time. I bet you could sum it up for him.

Puke

I did. It's in the email above Aron's last response.

But I'm sure Russell is right. This guy doesn't want to believe that his hero is based on lies.
