Maximizing your Open Carry Effects

Some might think, hey just slap a pistol on and walk around and that's all there is to it...nope...there's more...if you want to do it right.

1) Complementary colors.  If you have a black pistol, we're light clothing.  If you have a silver/two tone pistol, wear a dark color.
2) Walk on the side of the street where your pistol will be more visible to on coming traffic (plan your route, one way streets, etc)
3) Know the busy zones*.
4) Time your pace.  Walk fast when there are no cars there.  Walk slowly when cars are slow or stopped.  Try to time yourself to get to a stop-light when the traffic coming at you has a red light.
5) Smile a lot.  Look at people and nod or say hi.
6) Ever now and then bump your pistol with your hand as it swings by, moving objects draw attention.
7) Look for the following license plates and try to give them a double taste of seeing it (IMHO in this order): New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Canadian plates.
8 ) This one could be bad for future tourism, but will likely give you maximum return: Find the tour bus, walk by/near it or the people from it (usually they'll be from ME or MA).
9) Always, always, always be aware of your surroundings and any threats to you or your pistol (this includes not listening to an ipod, sorry you have to be aware!)

* Busy zones I'm aware of:

  • Concord, NH Loudon St/Fort Eddy Rd.
  • Manchester rt 28 and elm street
  • Salemn: 28 and 97
  • Nashua: Rt. 3 near the malls, HD, etc.
  • Portsmouth: Market square and Congress St
  • Keene: ??

Feel free to comment or add more info I left out.

I hope that is a compliment...

I was thinking that having a set of fliers we could hand out if people stop us or talk to us about carrying or something would be cool to have.  Anyone good at designing them?

It is.  lol means laugh out loud or lots of laughs.   8)   8)

The smile alot and be generally friendly should be emphasized.  Usually the only time people see someone open carrying is a cop, and a robber, neither of them makes most feel particularly comfortable.  If you are open carrying with a punk attitude, you will have wasted effort.
