Who thinks it wrong to leave the potato skins on potatoes if the recipe says....

Basically you if you see a lot of green stuff on the potato you should peel the green stuff under the skin off or you could get ill if you eat enough of the green stuff.
I think in small amounts the green, which mostly develops when exposed to air is a laxative, large amounts will be serious.  It is hard, but not impossible to harm yourself eating taters, millions of pounds are eaten ever year. 
Sorry to here about your tater salad, 10 pounds is a lot of waste.

I've eaten a lot of green potatoes, but I baked them at 400 degrees F for an hour or longer first, or fried them in hot oil 'till they were soft.  I never had any problems that I could trace to the potatoes.
