Karma is stupid.  Anyone can write a little script to hit the smite button every X minutes.  (It's even easier with something like Greasemonkey so you don't have to worry about the login / session tracking logic, which isn't that hard anyway.)

It would be a better system if people could rank a user / thread / post, once per forum account, like with a 1-5 stars widget, in a single click.
