Here is a kicker, I went to go transfer my license today, and the DMV wouldn't do it with a current credit card statement to prove residency. I didn't have any of the documents they require because I am renting month - month with all utilities included w/o a lease.  However the city will gladly take that piece of mail to register and title my car, and I can use the registration to prove residency. Someone tell me how that makes any sense.

Cities and towns have more intimate knowledge of where you actually live.
The State depends on the towns to know their residents.

Fluff and Stuff

The DMV needs your current D.L. plus two other important documents (certified residence paper - your town gives you this, military papers, SS card, birth cer., passport).  It says this on the DMV website.  Most of the folks in NH know this.  You could have asked us.  You should be able to bring proof of residency to Manchester (rent receipt and bank statement with current address) and get a certified residence paper if you want.

I'm sorry about your troubles but there have been several posts on the FSP Forum about this and it has been covered in detail over and over.  I agree that it is hard to get this stuff taken care of in NH.  We should work on changing that.

You've not done the DMV thing in Maryland, I assume. I am still contesting a car title because the state claims there's a lein on the vehicle. The fact that I've got a notorized letter from the lender claiming "No interest in the vehicle since completion of loan in September 2007" doesn't matter...

In NH they allow a written statement from a landlord as valid... NH is a friggin cake walk. :P

It's government paperwork.  Sense doesn't have anything to do with it.
