They have way too much fun with those things. Is there any organized movement to de-taserize cops? A quick google search didn't reveal anything. They're being so heavily abused that it's hard to keep track. Also, I have yet to hear of a case where they've been effectively used, as in to save a life.

The ACLU is pretty active in lobbying for taser reform legislation as is Amnesty International.

I also found the PPSC http://www.theppsc.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84,
and here's what there doing in PA http://mlcop.com/

Here's a link I found for taser related headlines buy it's a little outdated

This is an area where I think ostracism could be very effective because, let's face it, if you taser a 14 year old girl you're a coward. I hope this idiot's neighbors shun this guy and make him feel ashamed for his actions.

I personally don't think that any reform legislation would work. Tasers should be banned and the evidence reinforcing that position is overwhelming. All reform legislation seems to do is provide better training, but if it's necessary to teach somebody it's not a good idea to taze a little girl they probably shouldn't be a cop to begin with.

I'm hoping to launch a website sometime this summer that will allow for tracking events like this. I'll post more when it's ready.

I think this is a bigger issue that "taser abuse". Put quite simply, tasers are just another form of violence-by-cop and until violence-by-cop is delegitimized, you won't see anything.

Get rid of tasers and you'll see a rise in mace and gun violence by police.

Part of the red herring here is the assumption that assaulting and splitting the head of this girl open was an ACCIDENT, an unplanned side effect. That might have been true if the girl had been tased ONCE (which, for running away, is still too much). She was tased twice. The cop's goal was to fuck this person up, and that intent, not the taser, is what needs to be dealt with societaly.
