History: The Willowbrook Study

From 1963 through 1966, studies were carried out at the Willowbrook State School, a New York State institution for "mentally defective persons."
 
These studies were designed to gain an understanding of the natural history of infectious hepatitis and subsequently to test the effects of gamma globulin in preventing or ameliorating the disease.

The subjects, all children, were deliberately infected with the hepatitis virus; early subjects were fed extracts of stools from infected individuals and later subjects received injections of more purified virus preparations.

Investigators defended the deliberate injection of these children by pointing out that the vast majority of them acquired the infection anyway while at Willowbrook, and perhaps it would be better for them to be infected under carefully controlled research conditions.

During the course of these studies, Willowbrook closed its doors to new inmates, claiming overcrowded conditions.

However, the hepatitis program, because it occupied its own space at the institution, was able to continue to admit new patients. Thus, in some cases, parents found that they were unable to admit their child to Willowbrook unless they agreed to his or her participation in the studies.

This case caused a public outcry because of the perception that parents and their children were given little choice about whether or not to participate in research.

How can businesses have such a lack of ethics that they would do THIS to CHILDREN?

I believe that was government, not business.  Not that business is blameless in history of doing nasty things.

I've done a lot of research on it.    There's an overwhelming mountain of evidence in support of the widely-accepted theory about what happened.  I watched 9/11 unfold on live TV and tuned in before the second plane crash.  I watched people interviewed saying that an airplane flew over their cars while they were on the highway and then into the Pentagon.  I've read online Al-Jazeera forums in partial English and Arabic where people praise the 9/11 hijackers.  This world is literally full of evidence to support that OBL did this.  Of course he did and of course the Arabs are angry - along with the USSR, the US helped to completely destroy Afghanistan, treating it as a pawn in the Cold War.  We did the same thing with Iraq and Iran.  No matter how anti-government, anti-war, and anti-Bush I am, I cannot accept the 9/11 conspiracy theories as true without a huge mountain of evidence to support them, a mountain of evidence which just does not seem to exist unless I'm completely blind.

Some of these cases of medical testing on children involve government and some involve businesses.
