I heard this book's author today on Bob Edwards.

She told a number of interesting anecdotes about her travels around the country observing courts in action.

The striking thing to me was that she recognizes that the court system has completely broken down. The vast majority of people who go in don't have a strong advocate vigorously fighting for them against a prosecutor, in front of an impartial judge. Instead, almost everyone appearing in court is being rushed through a system where the judge, prosecutor, and public defender are all cooperating to settle the docket as quickly as possible.

Sam, Ian, and the NH-CLOG folks are recognizing this and using it to their advantage.
