Last night in Boscawen we saw some people out walking their goats down the highway.  I don't think they had leashes, but the goats did have little saddle bags.

One did have a leash. The guy was walking him. The woman and the two children managed the other goats.

Statistical proof that 3 out of 4 goats in NH are not unruly.

About 10 or 12 years ago I woke up with a pounding head and a screaming bladder, because I was at a wilderness campground in northern Arkansas for a fraternity reunion, where we all try to pretend we're still 20 years old and bulletproof.

In my state of pain, as I squinted out the tent flaps trying to avoid the sun, I saw a group of goats walking past. With saddlebags. And a family of obvious back-to-the-earthers (dad, mom, and stairstepped kids wearing home-sewn gingham). The Ozark Highlands Trail passes through that campground, and they were obviously out for a hike. With their pack goats.

Under the circumstances, my pounding fuzzy brain simply couldn't comprehend what was going on. I wish I'd been in shape to stop them and make acquaintances. They certainly seemed like our kind of people.

There was an experimental goat hike at Pustizzi fruit farm on Corn hill rd yesterday. The purpose was so kids could hike to the back field, choose a pumpkin and put it in the goats pack .Then hike back to the farm stand.

On our way back from Grafton yesterday I had to hit the brakes and swerve to avoid hitting a moose that walked out into the road.  This was on route 4 while we were still in Grafton.  A few miles down the road, and this is at night in some light rain, we saw a decked-out bow hunter walking along the road.  Maybe he was tracking the moose :-)

There was also a roadkill porcupine closer to New London.
