It appears the all-seeing-eye has invaded CL. If you want to post an ad you must enter your phone number before placing the ad. You will then receive a text message or a phone call that gives you a coding number. You need to enter this code number in order to place an ad.

A wonderful tracking method to keep us all safe from the boogieman.

Next up? I'd bet they start making sure all income derived from the sales gets reported to the IRS and that taxes are paid accordingly. (i.e a 1099 from will have to be filled out before placing ads....and then followed up after the sale.

eBay has already bought out a portion of Mr Craigs CL invention of FREE advertising and purchasing. It is said they have offered him millions for the entire set-up. Maybe they offered him other kickbacks in infest his free? site with Big Brotherism.

I was a big user of CL, for buying and selling. I am done.

on another note we now have Presdente' Dictator Osama Obama pushing legislation for more precise ID tracking of the internet. IMHO they already are doing it. But they need something solid that shows it is "Bob D. Jones" who logged online from a "Compaq laptop computer serial number 112-30B" and that the message came from "222 Commie Ave" in "Watchuall, Kansas" wih a phone contact number of "316-556-8899."

I ran into that once.  I thought they only did that if you offered a service.

Yesterday I tried to post an ad to sell some antique furniture and up popped the new phone verification stuff.

Maybe I will try it again. Thanks.

Perhaps the people at CR think that 'amoire' could be someone offering a service.

Kat Kanning

Maybe you have to do it all the time now.  I haven't posted an ad in a long time.

It's to help combat spam. I don't see the problem. It's a private company you can choose not to do business with.

i can see some of moving on to a less intrusive service if it gets too bad

Since they have most of the sheeple groomed on swiping cards to do everything, an internet access ID card will be next.

Swipe your card, agree to the "contract" or no surfy.

i can see that happening on many sites
i have run into sites where you can't spend money unless you are running IE on winblows

Apparently, Opera is fairly good at making those sites work.  I know someone who keeps a copy, just for one site he needs to use occasionally, but which will only work on IE or Opera, so he chooses to run Opera.

There are easier and less intrusive ways to fight "the war on spam."

It is already a fact that Obummer and his puppets are wanting to implement precise online tracking.
