Well...assuming you're talking about Mexicans, and people from Central and south America, they're not the liberty minded people our theoretical 20K are.
Negative connotations associated with immigrants are a result of the government making others pay the way for some of them.
Many of them  work more cheaply than many of us, because the are willing to live lower on the Hog.
In the late '70's I met a Vietnamese family who had a nice house in the suburbs.  they paid cash for it after living here for two years. Each parent worked two jobs.  Every kid had a job, babysitting, paper route and all contributed their salaries. They lived in a two bedroom apartment. The grandmother cooked the meals, cleaned the house and took care of the smaller children.

Sounds like my family....

Of course, as I typed that, I was watching a CNN report about outbreaks of TB in the states where ilegal immigrants come in.

"Concerns were sparked last summer, when the Board of Health learned cases of tuberculosis had returned to Milford [Mass] in alarming numbers, presumably from overseas where it is still fairly common."

TB was rampant in the city where I worked (45% immigration, not all considered undocumented) and in fact I worked along side a woman who had it. All she did was cough..ugh. So there are some health concerns. We are not the healthiest nation on earth for no reason.

And it's true, Government IS ALWAYS the problem...because of the system, and who it attracts. People will have to be more responsible if they don't come here for the free health care and handouts. Thousands of immigrants in NH are not bothered from year to year because they pay their own way.

Our goal is not to be part of SS system, so why should they have to be? Because they WANT to be...so they are indeed not in keeping with the liberty minded among us.

And I might add, the comment that "Regarding Jane's & Lloyd's observation, any immigrant family willing to work a convenience store 7 days a week 365 will make it" is very true since this perfectly describes MY FAMILY!!!!!!!!!!

I just also saw this and not sure if this is related, but it could have been started by a patient at the hospital and not be related to workers:
