Someone was telling me today that when they lived in CA, there was a company that rented out goats for dense undergrowth clearing. They put up an electrified fence, brought in the goats, and within a few days the undergrowth was cleared away. Interesting ideas.

There are a lot of goats and llamas and other similar creatures in NH...

Kat Kanning

Cool.  I thought it'd be a good idea to rent goats for poison ivy removal.

I picked up a copy of the NHFB paper, The Communicator. Excellent farm and NH agriculture articles, BTW. The June issue has an artcle on a goat milk operation in Brookfield. I intend to go check out their stuff at Via Lactea Farm on Stoneham Rd in Brookfield.

"Despite the rumors of goats eating everything in sight, including brush, saplings, brambles and poison ivy, they are a bit fastidious and won't eat the hay that they have stepped on."

So they didn't actually say that goats won't eat brush, saplings, brambles and poisn ivy.

I can get some goat meat, Yay!

I can save the paper for you Alan; it's got good stuff in it.

You should subscribe to The Mother Earth News, just $12.95 for 1 year.  The new publisher is moving the mag back toward the original thought from John Shuttleworth.

Good to hear. The old Mother Earth News was great!

Yeah, I recently bought a new copy, and I noticed that it was back to building your own one-room cabin, instead of selecting a contractor for a six bedroom log mansion.

That's a welcome return, in my view.

We had goats on the farm where I was raised, and I can attest to the fact that they are very efficient at clearing the land of any vegetation in sight.  Their reputation for eating manmade materials is based on fact, as well.  They will tear up and eat empty paper feed sacks.  I used to sneak candy out of the cupboard, and get rid of the evidence by feeding the plastic wrappers to the goats.  They would fight over each other for the wrappers! ;D

My son wants to get goats so that we don't have to mow the lawn.

You mean it's not going to be about socialist global warming democrat good Republican bad environmentalism anymore?

(It was a decent magazine anyway, but if this is true perhaps it'll even be better now.)

Goats are tough to keep in and if you don't they will climb up on your car. ;D

If you want goats, make sure you get them before NAIS takes effect.
