Apparently he is portraying a libertarian tv host!  I say, exploit the portrayal, it was said he doesn't drop character when the camera is off during taping.

hello - is anyone home?

Colbert is portraying a right-wing television host as parody...

He has always seemed centrist to me.  Most of the news people that talked about Kerry's quote used it to smear Kerry.  Hell, even Jon Stewart did that on the Daily Show.  However, every single one of these news people knew that Kerry was making fun of Bush and not the troops and they didn't care about the truth.  Keith O. of MSNBC and Stephen Colbert were two of the very few fpeople to actually talk about the Kerry quote correctly and usie it as a jumping point to make Bush look like one of the worst people alive.

You should watch the whole show.  Colbert attacked Republicans like crazy throughout the show when many left news people used similar events to falsely attack Kerry based on the same facts.  Colbert's fake news contained more serious political news on Wed. night than any of the real news shows.

It's a comedy show. First and foremost he wants to get a laugh. Now whether he is a lefty isn't certain. Sure he's parodying the Repubs, but they've been the one's in charge. If the Dems take over he might well find a way to take a shot at them. It's Comedy Central not C-SPAN.
Maybe he really is libertarian, but I doubt it matters what he is. The show is about laughs, not seriously effecting change. And almost everyone hates Bush now so he could even be a right winger poking fun at a not so conservative Conservative.

That's another funny thing.  The Daily Show and Colbert Report (and to a much lesser extend South Park) are made to be funny but they often take more fair and better reasoned looks at political issues than almost all of the serious news shows.

I've found that Keith O and Tucker Carlson seem to be two of the more well reasoned serious news personalities.

I just saw the Colbert Report.  The guest was famous New Hampshire libertarian Dean Kamen.  Kamen talked about how exporting jobs is good for the world and America.

Are there any more libertarians around for Colbert to interview :)

I heard a rumor (or maybe it was just a dream) that Steven Colbert signed the First 1000.  Can anyone verify?

If someone could verify your dreams, that would be a scary thing indeed.
