To me...these people and their beliefs are quite alarming...

[Edit] - I suppose that this site could easily be satirical... especially given the logical doublespeak the author makes repeated use of...

I think if you go back and read the site, you'll find it's pretty clever.

The author's name is "Les U. Knight" (get it?) and his response when asked if the movement is serious is a beautifully penned non-answer.

QuoteQ: Are you really serious?

We're really vehement.

Many see humor in The Movement and think we can't be serious about voluntary human extinction, but in spite of the seriousness of both situation and movement, there's room for humor. In fact, without humor, Earth's condition gets unbearably depressing -- a little levity eases the gravity.

True, wildlife rapidly going extinct and 40,000 children dying each day are not laughing matters, but neither laughing nor bemoaning will change what's happening. We may as well have some fun as we work and play toward a better world.

Besides, returning Earth to its natural splendor and ending needless suffering of humanity are happy thoughts -- no sense moping around in gloom and doom.

My guess is that most people here don't remember the 1970s frenzy of the Zero Population Growth movement.  It was a big dicussion topic in the Libertarian world in the late 60s and early 70s.

Wasn't alive then, and given it faded into obscurity... ;)

You're right, though, the fact that they had "Voluntary" in the title and had a graph which involved nothing but coercive measures should really have been a clue.

Ah well...
