QuoteI asked him why I was being arrested, he told me I was in violation County Ordinance 16-2 (the print out in his hand that he didn't bother to read to me or show me). He told me I was obstructing the sidewalk. I told him I was not and that officer Crisp had witnessed a guy walk by me moments before."

I herd about that Amerika movie when it came out.  I saw it on the shelves for about 3 days.  Funny, after the airing and vcr tapes came out, almost immediatly they dissappeared.
  Does anybody have this movie?

For a niche made-for-TV movie from the '80s, that's not a wholly unreasonable price.

For the most part police aren't incredibly bright to begin with. Most of them consider themselves extremely important to society who without their presence would somehow turn into the wild west(which ironically was considerably safer than most cities in America today). Its the typical thing of a man with a badge and a gun on a power trip, and don't even get me started on women cops. They are ten times worse than male police officers. That being said I am friends with at least ten cops here in NH and everyone one of them is decent and strictly adheres to the constitution. They took the job because they want to help people in need. These types of officers are lacking with every new recruit that comes in. Especially now with a lot of ex MPs taking positions in police departments. After being in Iraq, etc they don't exactly respect the rights that are in this country when they are used to violating the same rights on a continuous basis in Iraq and elsewhere. Personally I don't think MPs should be hired as cops until they take a course on the constitution to refresh their memories. Its very dangerous to put people into this line of work who are either on a power trip or in this case act based on their political ideology. The basic rule for all politicians and police officers since they hold the most power over our lives should be that if they violate the constitution they are fired immediately and all of their benefits would be suspended. Things would change immediately.

Fragilityh21 had already brought up the point about there being or should be a law to punish people who deprive others of their inherant rights. There is one, 18 USC 241, although I've never heard of it actually being used against "two or more" oppressors. Pretty heavy penalties, too, starting at 'up to ten years'.

Just because they wrote some words on a goddamned piece of paper, doesn't mean that they'll be enforced. Especially not by the bureaucrats against one of their own. We all know of cops who literally get away with murder and are still on the streets terrorizing people to this day.
