Nervous leg syndrome. Good one. I've got butt longs to be free syndrome. Scroll down to my emphasis.

What Are the Possible Side Effects of Requip?

Most people who take Requip tolerate it well. The most commonly reported side effects in people taking Requip for RLS are nausea, drowsiness or sleepiness, vomiting, and dizziness. You should be careful until you know if Requip affects your ability to remain alert while doing normal daily activities, and you should watch for the development of significant daytime sleepiness or episodes of falling asleep. It is possible that you could fall asleep while doing normal activities such as driving a car, doing physical tasks, or using hazardous machinery while taking Requip. Your chances of falling asleep while doing normal activities while taking Requip are greater if you are taking other medicines that cause drowsiness.

When you start taking Requip or when you increase your dose, you may feel dizzy, nauseated, sweaty, or faint, when first standing up from sitting or lying down. Therefore, do not stand up quickly after sitting or lying down, particularly if you have been sitting or lying down for a long period of time. Take a minute sitting on the edge of the bed or chair before you get up.

Some patients taking ropinirole have shown urges to behave in a way unusual for them. Examples of this are an unusual urge to gamble or increased sexual urges and/or behaviors. If you or your family notices that you are developing any unusual behaviors, talk to your doctor.

Hallucinations (unreal sounds, visions, or sensations) have been reported in patients taking Requip. These were uncommon in patients taking Requip for RLS. The risk is greater in patients with Parkinson's disease who are elderly, taking Requip with L-dopa, or taking higher doses of Requip than recommended for RLS.

This is not a complete list of side effects and should not take the place of discussions with your health care providers. Your doctor or pharmacist can give you a more complete list of possible side effects. Talk to your doctor about any side effects or problems you may have.

soooo . . . . as long as you don't stand up too fast after sex, playing blackjack, or chasing the little green leprechauns, i guess you're in the clear

Nervous Leg Syndrome (more commonly called Restless Legs Syndrome) is a real disorder.  I suffer from it.  I haven't sought medical care for it, though, because I usually go months or years between flare-ups, and all that stuff is for people who really can't stand the sensation on a daily or weekly basis.  Since RLS is a neurological disorder, medicines treating it have to affect the brain, so the side effects listed for Requip make sense.  Since I haven't sought medical advice for my RLS (thank you, Internet), though, I'm certainly no expert on the medicine (out of curiosity, are you, or did you just sort of copy-and-paste a broadsheet you found somewhere?).

When I get a flare-up, I manage it by gritting my teeth, increasing my magnesium, taking long hot baths, and doing Sudoku.  It really is a hellish, torturous feeling, and it's very much real, and I think your snarky remark about "butt longs to be free syndrome" was inappropriate, not because it "offended" me or anything like that, but because that sort of thing should be reserved to things deserving mocking.  There are a lot of fake syndromes out there, but RLS isn't one of them.

I'm pretty sure Coffee was pointing out the list of side effects, not commenting on that particular affliction. Since they have had to list the possible side effects in these ad spots, I'm surprised anyone is willing to take these drugs ;D
I'm not happy about my greenish toenails, but, I'm happy with my liver.

I already have this am I'm not taking that medicine.  I'm sure there must be a medicine that I can take that will cure me, isn't there?   8)

Being a user of homepathics I've paid attention to allopathic medicines and to the health care industry. I am aware that the pharmaceutical companies lobby heavily to take their new drugs to market. In order for there to be wide acceptance of any new drug there has to be a diagnosis code assigned so that insurance companies can pay. Doctors get wined and dined, taken on trips. Insurance execs get wined and dined. The very best politicians that money can buy get wined and dined. You can imagine there would not be many people taking drug XYZ if it never made it to the marketplace, or if it weren't "free". The lobby sees to it that all parties play nice. Who says we don't have socialized medicine? I am stating that this drug's sudden widespread use is the result of pharma lobby.

I thought it to be odd that a manufactured drug intended to treat something as benign as restless legs would make you want to gamble or have sex. Once again the industry has released this drug (most new drugs) to the market without really knowing what the long-term effects are. That position would seem to be backed up by a statement on Requip's website:

The precise mechanism of action of REQUIP as a
treatment for Restless Legs Syndrome (also known as Ekbom Syndrome) is unknown.

Faber - Welcome to the board. Good luck with your treatment. I look forward to having many fine conversations with you. You will find the information that I cite at the Requip website. http://www.requip.com

Funny thing, I actually heard that medical disclaimer on a TV ad last night. I didn't pay attention to what the ad was for, but I doubt there's more than one warning about gambling and sexual urges.  ;)

Or the fact that it contains FD&C colors that are known to cause cancer. Or that it contains the heavy metals Iron and Titanium. Good stuff! Or that it is defined as a non-ergoline dopamine agonist which means that it triggers your dopamine but supposedly does not contain the alkaloids found in psychedelic drugs. Ya sure!

I'd like to go out a little farther on the limb and say that I have a firm conviction that RLS is at most a manufactured disease, at very least the result of a chemical sensitivity to the barium salts and titanium (and others) that are being sprayed into the air every day.

kola

but i thought the FDA was keeping us all safe?

and all those drugs are tested and researched and approved!!

and all those white coated professionals with the dangling stethoscopes know what is best for us.

c'mon, take your medicine like good lil sheeple!!

modern medicine is a religion and a bad religion based on blind faith...it is all smoke and mirrors, matrix induced filled with lies. ..it is a big machine to generate bucks. they make no money with cures so there are none although they pretend they are looking for them... they make megabucks with treating symptoms.. so that is what they do. they treat symptoms which builds dependency, gives false hope and later causes more sickness..thus more pills and more surgery...according to them the best patient is a sick LIVE patient... they make zero bucks from a dead patient or a healthy one.

remember the days of the penicillin shot when it was used and abused for everything? we are now paying the price aren't we? but the crazy chiropractors and alternative folks warned people 50-60 years ago
about all these dangers and it all fell on deaf ears only now to FINALLY be recgnized by a small bunch of self thinkers. Vaccines are crippling kids immune systems. They do not build it, they destroy it. Interestingly the number of vaccines toady have increased from 3-6 vaccines in the early days to 50+ in the 21 st century. And people wonder why everyone is so sick? If you doubt the importance of a good immune system to support life just observe an AIDS patient. A common cold will kill one.
