Seeing as the UK is a few years "ahead" of us in the tyranny department, here is the information they want for you to travel, shared by "interested parties."

Both times I've been through Heathrow---just flying through, mind you, not stopping there--were dreadful. It doesn't take much motivation for me to permanently cross off Great Britain from my list of places I want to travel. This definitely does it. :(

Why do I get the feeling that the goal of the British and American governments is to make traveling so inconvenient and so burdensome that fewer and fewer people will be willing to do it?

Because if some huge percentage of Americans are already used to never leaving the country, and never having foreigners visit, out of "choosing" not to deal with the hassle, it becomes a hell of a lot easier PR-wise when they finally decide to seal the borders completely. Not that they could be possibly planning that...

I bet they are happy for you to travel ... just as long as they know every detail and can tell you "no". :(

on Italian friend once told me:
yes the trains were on time in facist Italy ... just none of us were allowed to ride them. :(
