Geek question: streaming broadcast how-to

We are enjoying our new independent professional baseball team, and we've attended about half the home games. One thing the team is missing is a streaming broadcast.

I'm an active volunteer fan, updating the Wikipedia page and forum with stats and scores whenever I can. I thought I'd do what I could to check out what is necessary to create a streaming broadcast.

I'll have to present it all to the team owners if we decide to put something together, and I'd be relying on their broadband.

Sooooo... if you were going to put together an online sportscast for live baseball, possibly with an archived podcast, how would you do it? Don't forget hardware: assume two mics minimum, possibly a third or fourth for guests or ambient noise.

I'm a big open source fan. A laptop with *nix would be my first choice, and a Macbook second if not for the cost, and Winderz would be acceptable if nothing else was available.

FTL guys? Anyone?
