Suggesting that beaver dams aren't harmful is not honest. Habitat is changed, some good and bad comes from this depending on POV.

I didn't say that or even suggest that. In fact, I even said that specific instances of building (I was referring to human building, but since there's no substantive difference between human and animal, the same is true in this context) could be deemed to be harmful on a case-by-case basis.

So the infrastructure of civilization is here; it's too big to pare down; we cannot effectively do anything about; live with it.

So the government is here; it's too big to pare down; we cannot effectively do anything about; live with it.

LOL, the problem with this parallel is that IMO the former problem is targeting people themselves for elimination, whereas the latter deals with some peoples ideas/actions and aims to change them.

Rainey, most, if not all, paper products are made from paper that comes from tree farms. Not "raped wilderness".

One acre of hemp could produce more paper than 10 acres of trees and the hemp grows back every year.

Lloyd Danforth

Whenever I hear claims about Hemp, I can't help but wonder why countries that don't have laws against hemp are not devoting every spare square acre to this wonder fiber.

John Edward Mercier

I would guess because the US would use the Commerce Clause to restrict its importation.

Lloyd Danforth

I thought about that, but, not the Commerce Clause as I was, only  vaguely aware of it.  I know the fedgov has ways of putting pressure on countries that give a crap about relations with the US, but, that doesn't explain the countries that don't.

John Edward Mercier

Just like they do now... they just ignore the commerce clause until the fedgov catches them, confiscates the product, and anything else they can get their hands on.

We import a lot of hemp products now. Are you saying that if done on a larger scale, you believe they would intervene to stop it?

John Edward Mercier

If its seriously affected the political climate... yes.
Some of the early movies on cannabis were a 'bit' overdone... I suspect by big agricultural interests that did not want the competition. Now the petrochemical industry would need to be added.
