Police in australia are looking at a new software tool that will allow them to pop in a Linux LiveCD, scan your hard drive and make copies of anything that the software picks up. In Australia, such "evidence" would be admissible in court.

One quick-and-dirty way to defeat this sort of thing is to use data encryption.

For Windows users, TrueCrypt is one such easy-to-use method to use towards this end, and IIRC, the latest version allows full-disk encryption.

i had a cool dream.
