Lindsay and I were discussing this last night and it's important...

We grew up in Michigan. When you ordered "tea" you got tea.

When we moved to Kentucky, we ordered "tea" and got tea. With sugar. And possibly lemon.

In Virginia/Maryland, tea also includes sugar. Finding tea without sugar is difficult unless we make it ourselves (which is hard to do on roadtrips or while driving to work). There is this invention called "Diet Tea" which sounded promising, until we discovered it's tea plus a non-sugar sweetener. :S

In New Hampshire, what do you get if you simply order "tea"?

AntonLee

tea, no sugar as far as I'm concerned.  Sweet tea would be with sugar.  Flavored teas like Raspberry tea are available at fast food restaurants.

Tea is an almost clear hot liquid that comes in a cup.  It is a poor substitute for coffee.

I have never managed to get tea in VA or MD or KY by asking for tea.  In my experience, one has to ask for hot tea.

True enough, but it's pretty damn good if tea's what you're after

Every place in AZ served non-sweetened ice tea. Not so much here.

Are we talking hot tea?

I drink pretty high-end tea, and would be pretty pissed if the server stuck ANYTHING in there besides the tea ball

Tea.

If you order "iced tea", you'll probably get a rather sad thing made from instant powder. If you order "sweet ice tea", it will probably have fruit juice in it, assuming you don't just get a blank stare.

Most places I've been serve real iced tea.  They typically ask you if you'd like it sweet or not.  A few times I've received the powdered junk, but not usually, since that's almost always sweetened and I always ask.  I think the default here is to give you unsweetened tea and bring you a bunch of sugar on the side.

Didja notice that Kevin said tea was important in the first post, then thought better of it and started the "I'm getting sick of talking" thread.  I'm guessing some soul searching happened between the two posts.

Maybe he finally got a good cup of tea and it cleared his mind  :D

You crack me up. :)

Tea isn't all that important to me. I prefer herbal teas that are more relaxing and less bitter. But my wife likes her teas and so by extension, it's important to me. This was an informational, slightly goofy post and that's fun.

Also, unsweetened tea is pretty low on my list of activism, so I think it's safe to talk about. :D
