CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- State officials said a "citizen's complaint" sparked a raid of a Charlotte investment business on Friday that netted nearly $2 million in gold and silver.

The North Carolina Securities Division issued a cease-and-desist order for the Queen Shoals Group, a business based in the University area.

Witnesses said state investigators and police officers removed boxes and filing cabinets from the business.

State officials said they found $1.9 million worth of gold and silver coins and bullion in the business and nearby storage shed.

According to the state, the Queen Shoals Group is not registered to deal in securities in North Carolina.

A state spokeswoman said they will explore criminal charges against the business' owners, Sid and Charlotte Hanson. Sid Hanson said he did not know why he was being investigated.

"Their allegations are that you're not registered in any way with the state, is that true?" Eyewitness News asked. "I'm not sure; I'll have to check," Hanson replied.

State officials said they have no timetable for how long it will take to go through what investigators found.
