I am a volunteer firefighter in my hole in NJ, and this was sent to me.  Obviously I don't think it's good that someone is supposedly placing hand grenades at firehouses, the thing that caught my attention (lastly) was the last sentence of the notice.  "Above all, do not become complacent to the fact that certain elements in society are determined to cause harm to governmental entities including emergency response agencies."

So, this is not good, but could it be used against non-conformists/disenters/vocal anti.....statist types....?

There was a post on the freekeene forum about an anarchist group meeting in pittsburgh, pa, that was pro-theft, pro-violence, so I'm wondering if it could be the same type as that, or (conspiratorial, I know,) even an agent provacateur trying to set people up for, who knows what?

NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS
DIVISION OF FIRE SAFETY
OFFICE OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL
SAFETY ALERT
PO Box 809, Trenton, NJ 08625-0809 (609) 633-6070 SAFETY ALERT 09-4
Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Warning
Issued July 20, 2009
On May 24, 2009 and again on June 15, 2009, the West New York Police Department responded to the North Hudson Regional Fire Department, Engine 11, located in West New York, NJ on reports of hand grenades found on top of a barbeque grill used by firefighters in the driveway of the firehouse. The grenades did not appear to have any rust or leakage.
The Jersey City Bomb Squad was contacted and responded to the scene. The Bomb Squad secured the grenades and x-rayed them and the images that resulted were inconclusive. Further testing showed the grenades contained chemicals that are thermally reactive. The heat generated from the grill could have activated the chemicals, beginning a chemical reaction causing pressure to build in the grenade resulting in an explosion.
The hand grenades were classified as improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The Division of Fire Safety, Office of the State Fire Marshal recommends that all fire departments remain vigilant to the possibility of similar attempts.
If suspected devices or packages are found, the following actions should be undertaken:
• NEVER TOUCH ANY DEVICE OR PACKAGE THAT IS SUSPICIOUS. Do not attempt to move or open as it could explode.
• Isolate the device or package by evacuating the area.
• If a suspicious package is discovered while handling, avoid dropping, throwing, or any other abrupt shock movement. This can cause detonation of certain devices. Gently set the package down and get away.
• Call the police immediately from a safe location. Do not use a radio or cell phone within a minimum of 100 feet from the object.
• Describe what the device or package looks like and its location to the police.
Above all, do not become complacent to the fact that certain elements in society are determined to cause harm to governmental entities including emergency response agencies.

It reads like a letter from a fear monger looking for additional police powers.

There is an invisible group of people that want to bomb you. Look out! They want power to "protect" you from lawless chaos.

Yep.

It sounds to me like someone sat them on the grill as a form of "amnesty barrel", dropping them off in a safe location. The bit about "the grill could have set them off" is just FUD... can you picture a fireman going out to light the grill and not noticing there were hand grenades on top of it?

I don't trust propaganda related to fire departments.  They're infested with the same "holier than thou" crap that public school teachers spew.
