Does it mean something that the tags on the home page are displayed in different sizes?

The more times a tag is used, the larger it appears. This constantly changes; if John Doe is large today and you upload and tag a bunch of pictures of Mary Smith, She might be larger than John and John might become medium-sized.

It's not clear whether all images have been/will be uploaded by their owners, or whether admins will be uploading images from existing sites as well?

Good point. anyone can upload their images, not just admins.

How do you tell who uploaded and/or owns an image? For example, say you're a Boston Globe reporter and want to obtain permission to use a particular image in an article.  I tried clicking on a couple of images but it didn't give any indication as to where they came from or who to contact for more info.

Another good point. I will modify the images' (and videos' and audio files') main page to show who uploaded them and when they were uploaded. Although the site allows anonymous uploads, so some people may not want to create an account, so their images may say "uploaded by anonymous."

i would guess that if an image is uploaded it is free to use ... maybe he can put that on the front page

Good suggestion. The point of the website is to publish your pics/vids/audios so others can use them, so I should indeed put an appropriate blurb on the website explicitly saying that.

You might think about making it one of the rules of the site that, if someone chooses to upload something as anonymous, you can label it as "owned" by NHFAIR.  I doubt a journalist from a mainstream media outlet would be allowed to republish an image attributed to anonymous.
