Mass. principal bans students from saying 'Meep!'

DANVERS, Mass. ยป Who knew "Meep!" was a four-letter word?

The utterance favored by bungling lab assistant Beaker of "The Muppet Show" has been banned at Danvers High School in Massachusetts after students said it to repeatedly interrupt school.

Principal Thomas Murray says the word was part of a disruption planned using Facebook.

The Salem News reports that parents recently got an automated call about "Meep!" from Murray. He warned them that students who said or displayed the word at school could be suspended.

Murray says the warning was needed because students didn't heed his "reasonable request" to stop the meeping.

Danvers High sophomore Melanie Crane says it doesn't mean anything in particular.

Usually when students mock an adult in mass numbers, be it a teacher, principal or whoever, it's usually a sign of that adult being the problem.

I remember in my high school we had a substitute teacher who was a total idiot, we'd all love getting a rise out of her because she couldn't handle it.  Once she had such a problem with her class that she got on the intercom stating she couldn't handle the kids but instead of just contacting the principal it broadcast to the whole school.  After that there was no mercy at all for the poor woman.

I'd guess this to be something similar.  This principal sounds like a total tool.

Our 6th-grade teacher had just moved away or switched schools or got a new job or something. We made the new teacher cry and run out of the room because we complained that we wanted our old teacher back and talked about how she was better. It was just typical kid stuph. Everyone felt really bad after her passive-aggressive behavior and was really apologetic afterward. It was kind of sad when I looked back on it that she would let some little kids get to her like that and respond to it in that way. It's just a fucking job. Damn. Don't let your self-esteem hinge on what some snotty-nosed little kids think right in the midst of a change, which any kid is going to find uncomfortable.

Seriously.  Talk about missing the point.

They are also reporting people to the Danvers Police that email them.  LOL

After hearing about this from my old home town I couldnt resist writing to all my former administration.

Also, this meep thing at DHS has been going on for over 15 years.  There is a bio teacher who looks EXACTLY like Beaker!  Wears the lab coat and everything EVERY day.  We used to meep at him all the time.  Daily.  For the four (horrible) years I was there.  I would imagine my class was not the first ...

My email:

Dear Principal Murray and everyone else I miss so dearly at DHS,

Unlike several times in the past, I'm on your side this time.  I know, this must come as a shock to you all considering what a handful I was but really, we have to be careful.  Today they are mimicking Beaker by saying MEEP tomorrow, it could be PAC-MAC and they are saying WAKA-WAKA-WAKA-WAKA as they walk through the hallways.  What would happen if every student decides to combat the Swine Flu with two spoon fulls of sugar with a side of supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!!!???!!! This type of behavior must be stopped or it could lead to a full-blown out-break of NANU-NANU!!  You would have to get Homeland Security involved!  MY GOD THE HUMANITY!!!!!

Regards,
{my actual name here} - class of 2XXX (I'm sure you remember me Mr.  Strout!)

P.S.  Stay Classy DHS!!!

P.P.S.  Sup Mr. Cali!  You rock!

The Danvers High School principal's email address is murray@danvers.org (from their home page). I sent him an email with a subject of "Meep" and "Meep" as the body.

Wouldn't it be apt if he received hundreds of email meeps?

leetninja

he hasnt been receiving hundreds ... more like tens of thousands.  This has made internation news and people around the globe agree he is a damned idiot for even trying to silence these kids.  it is the wrong way to handle it and just proves that he is completely TOTALLY out of touch with the children.

snap bracelets used to be really cool and hip to have.  The school then put out warnings about them opening up and slicing off kids' hands when the fabric wears off.  No one cared.  The school then banned them.  That's when I got one, and other kids got multiples.

then one teacher started wearing them.  Then we stopped.  There's a lesson there.

I taught a girlfriend's 12-year-old daughter to add ". . . between the sheets" to fortune-cookie fortunes.  Soon, she was appending it to everything everyone said.  It caught on with her friends at school, and before long, they were mouthing it to one another after anything any teacher had to say.  There'd be sporadic fits of giggling throughout the day, and none of the authority figures knew exactly why.
I recommend this to anyone else who knows a middle-school-aged kid.
