They've got policing completely bass-ackwards. The police are not there to feret out crime. Their job is to investigate crime that has been reported. Sure, I expect them to stop crime in progress, if they see it, but that's very rare. The problem is that most of the "crime" they arrest people for these days is no crime at all. It's statutory malum prohibitum, with no harmed person or missing or damaged property. Nobody will report such a non-crime to the police, since nobody is hurt by it, and the police are left to find it themselves, causing them to "need" to delve further and further into our private lives.

well the people they want to control are inside the borders .... so it makes sense to put the checkpoints in our neighborhoods

Except the people that believe nothing is more important than following arbitrary law and think everyone else should too.
