I have heard that hackers have made a devise that will stop your car and unlock your doors if you have onstar. They are selling them to criminal gangs, armed thugs, crack addicts and illegal immigrants.
These systems are a danger to all that have them in their cars.
Also, even before gm became a federal dependency, onstar was an illegal 'arm' of the government as they will stop your car for the cops.
I would like to put them out of business both for the above and their marketing practices.
Please dress up the first paragraph any way you please and make it go viral.
It is important to make onstar owners think that whoever their worst fears are, already have these boxes and are just waiting to stop your car and, rob, rape, kidnap or kill you, your children, grandchildren and, grandparents.

By the way, they can also turn the microphone on without your knowledge and listen to your conversations.

I have always, assumed that. If the system can be turned off a switch that would stay in the off position until some sort of G force made it go on, could be a popular product.

Guess that depends upon the wiring setup.  If there's a plug that feeds power to the OnStar unit, where you could click in a pigtail that would add the switch, that would work.  Similar if OnStar has a dedicated fuse - just install a connector that has fuse-like blades, which would include a fuse and a pigtail to a switch.

Probably a way to tie into the airbag system, so when the airbag switch powers the airbags, it also latches a relay that would power the OnStar.  If you got really fancy, you could add a separate battery and sell it as a safety feature - if the vehicles battery system failed, the backup battery would still power the OnStar unit (just make the switching thing an option; that way, you could sell to folks who don't care, on the safety basis).

Wow, that's creepy but I'm not surprised.   I have never wanted Onstar, just my '77 Chevy Nova back.  :)  Thanks for the heads up Lloyd!  I will spread this to as many people as I can.
