Video taping security at the airport

So, while there are 40,000 or so (so we're told) security cameras recording in every airport, I'm wondering, it is illegal to videotape the screening as one heads through an airport? I can't imagine it would be up to local laws, as I'm sure the screening area is a federally-protected area, but I guess it could. I've been searching the internets for days, and I can't find anything. Maybe its illegal if they want it to be when you walk through. Just wondering if anyone knows for sure.

illegal ... probably not
if you try it .... i bet one of the tsa workers freaks
if you turn it off ... they might not take it from you

It might at least be worth the entertainment value.

TSA & Photography

QuoteLive from the Honolulu International Airport, I bring you the following conversation I shared with the Transport Security Administration about the photography of their checkpoint.

Me: Is there any specific written tsa regulation prohibiting photography?

TSA Captain: Yes there is. Phography is not allowed.

Me: Can I see this in writing?

TSA Captain: I can't let you see that.

Me: Then how do I know it exists?

TSA Captain: I just told you.

Obviously there is a problem here; I don't mind not being able to take photos (national security, yada yada) but TSA as a government agency has to at least inform the public of its regulations. How can anyone be held responsible for violating a regulation they could not possibly know exists.

Can I Take Photos at the Checkpoint and Airport?

QuoteWe don't prohibit public, passengers or press from photographing, videotaping, or filming at screening locations. You can take pictures at our checkpoints as long as you're not interfering with the screening process or slowing things down. We also ask that you do not film or take pictures of our monitors.
