The Keene Police Department will join forces with several businesses and organizations for a night of games, exhibitions and family fun next week.

National Night Out is being held in hopes of strengthening neighborhood spirit and the relationship between the community and its police department, said Keene police Lt. Brian C. Costa.

"It gives the community a chance to interact with police as normal people, especially kids. It gives the opportunity for children who don't usually associate with police to talk and hang out with them," Costa said.

The event will be held Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Keene Police Department, 400 Marlboro St.

There will be something for all ages, with activities ranging from face painting to police-dog and Taser demonstrations. Police officers will be there to fingerprint children, and offer tours.

Keene State College will have an impaired driving course in which people can drive a golf cart through the course while wearing "drunk goggles," aimed at promoting drug and alcohol prevention.

Local businesses help to make this event happen by donating food and services so taxpayer money isn't used, Costa said.

Target, a national sponsor of the event, will have its own tent set up.

Each year, Target sponsors the event as a way of giving back to the community, said Mark D. Lore, an executive team leader at the Keene store.

Organizations such as the Keene Fire Department, Keene Public Works Department, and the Monadnock Center for Violence Prevention will also be at the event.

This is the third year the Keene Police Department will participate in National Night Out, although nationally it has been taking place for 28 years.

Admission is free. Information: www.ci.keene. nh.us/departments/police/national-night-out.

A clever way to fool tthe sheep into thinking cops are the good guys. And they especially prey on the kids.

My suggestion for the KPD slogan...

"Not as bad as some Police Departments!"

That would be one hell of a night to stage a march on the Keene jail....

It was a great genital waving for the state. They had all their toys on display. Here's two vids I've pieced together from the Concord festivities.
