Organized religions are run by statists, IMO. ?

The most spiritual people I've met have long since freed themselves from the shackles of religious materialism that preoccupies most clerics.

Just passing through...this idea has struck me many times in the past as well!
I too have noticed a strong connection between having a god and having a government.

Relying on something bigger and "better" than myself to make ethical decisions for myself and all others.  Much like a supernatural (meaning *not* natural, but other than natural) god, governments are purported to be above and beyond individual (wo)man.

While I don't condone all of your attempts to logically describe why "god"....uh, "god", what's that?
I do support your efforts.  Good luck.

Very interesting 60 minutes program segment last night on "Plan B" emergency contraceptives.

On one hand there are those that say that this drug should be offered to the public over-the-counter (as voted 24-4 "yes" by the FDA medical panel).

On the other hand, the government has overridden its own scientists and decided to restrict it's distribution (apparantly on religious/political grounds).  It seems the Administration believes it can make more political points with the religious right by taking this position.

Here's the apparent problem:  Are the riligious preferences of one group allowed to trump the social freedoms of another, or vice versa?    :-\

Historically that has been the trend.

Governments are evil.

Religion is quite often evil as well.

Mix the two and you are are very nearly evil-squared.

You're making "the problem" too simple.  It's a question of authority for me.  Which article and clause of the Constitution gives the federal government the right to license any drugs?  Shouldn't this be handled by the private sector?
