GIVE ME THE IMMIGRANTS

Every morning I find my virtual mailbox ? once I clear out the 95% that?s unsolicited advertising ? crammed full of messages about the manifold evils of ?illegal? immigration and ?illegal? immigrants. Naturally, I?ve heard every word of it before (and so have you) many times, in many different contexts. When I heard it the first time, myself, it was all about the dangers of admitting to ourselves that black people are real human beings, with rights that deserve to be enforced.

It was bullshit then, and it is bullshit now. In my grandfather?s day, people said exactly the same things about the Irish and Italians coming to America, about how they were all dirty, lazy, criminally- inclined rapists and murderers. If they?re allowed to stay, our poor, fragile all-American culture and lifestyle (Pass the pizza, will you? And whip me up a Margarita while you?re at it.) is done. And please, don?t even mention those white-slaving, opium-smoking fiends, the Chinese.

Otherwise known as ?the Yellow Peril?.

Yet somehow, despite the dire threat immigration represented, we all seem not only to have survived, but to have flourished. Pizza, Margaritas (invented in Mexico, by an American), and lo mein now seem as American as apple pie (which is probably German). We and our kids show up at dojos, do-changs, and studios to study Japanese, Chinese, and Korean techniques of personal self-defense. And, at least in my circles, the first thing we notice about a black person probably isn?t the color of his skin: ?Say, is that a CZ you?re carrying, or an EAA Witness??

No, it hasn?t always been this way, and we still have a long road to travel. But the progress that we have made ? and the river of blood that was spilled along the way by individuals on every side ? is unquestionably real. What?s more, every bit of real progress was accomplished despite the presence of government, whose clumsy and often violent interference only threatened to make things even worse than they had been to begin with. To my knowledge, white southerners never hated black people until the many excesses and insanities of Reconstruction; that bigoted inclination seems to have been limited to northeners.

There?s a reason for this, and those, Left and Right, who demand that government interfere with their fellow humans on their behalf today either don?t seem to realize it, or choose childishly to ignore it.

Government can only do two things:

It can beat people up and kill them.

Or it can threaten to do so.

When it seems to be doing something else ? for example, handing out money or, say, surplus cheese ? what?s actually going on is that something has been taken away from one set of individuals by deadly force or the threat of deadly force, a hefty middleman?s fee deducted, and whatever is left thrown to peasants delighted to receive stolen goods.

The cheese is a tad more complicated, but only a tad. More money, taken by deadly force or the threat of deadly force, is paid to some protected class ? dairy farmers, in this example ? to artificially reduce the supply of cheese and thereby raise its market price. When the government?s hoard of cheese finally threatens to sink one end of the continent or the other, some of it gets tossed off the back of a truck to the studio audience of the Jerry Springer or Maury Povich shows, who probably can?t afford to buy cheese in a grocery store, and are too clumsy and too stupid to get away with shoplifting it for themselves.

Government is stealing, pure and simple.

That?s all government is about.

That?s all it?s ever been about.

That?s all it will ever be about.

Government is stealing, accomplished through a combination of brute force and con-gamery, of extortion at gunpoint and logically spurious emotional blackmail. If they?re not convinced to go along by one of these ?arguments?, most individuals will be by the other. And if not, then government jails or kills them and takes what it wants, anyway.

The correct name for such an entity, of course, is ?kleptocracy?. Forget all other political or ideological classifications you may have seen.

All governments are kleptocracies.

All they?ve ever been are kleptocracies.

All they ever will be are kleptocracies.

Until the middle of the last century ? about the time of World War II ? kleptocracy in America acted with a fairly intelligent restraint. As long as it stole the least it could steal to satisfy its hunger, and otherwise left those pretty much alone who were forced to feed it, its victims could be persuaded ? this is where the con comes in ? they have a moral duty to pay the kleptocrats, a parasitic class who are almost certainly incapable of earning a living in a truly free society.

Similarly, if the kleptocrats of this country had ever made the slightest effort to abide by, observe, respect, or enforce the highest law of the land ? the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution, commonly known as the Bill or Rights, instead of spending their time and energy whittling it down, bit by bit, year after year, century after century, the country might be worth saving from unfriendly intruders who seem bent on making changes whether we want them made or not.

As it is, however, America today lies in the grip of a coalition of cretins, crazies, and criminals who haven?t done more damage, so far, simply because they haven?t had enough time yet. It?s extremely difficult to imagine how the nation could be in worse hands. Anyway, what is there to choose, between the Marxists and latterday Nazis bent on controlling our lives now, squeezing us tighter with each passing day, and those who may be striving to control us sometime in the
future?

Or maybe not.

Give me the immigrants, every time. Their food is terrific, their music is cheerful, their company is entertaining, their females are decorative, and maybe there?s time to teach them about the Bill of Rights.

It?s way, way too late for the cretins, crazies, and criminals in government.

Amen!  This should be required reading in schools.  If people won't read it, the government should come and beat them and then kill them.  ;)
