I read it and was disgusted but this part irks me:

under the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938, the government imposed quotas on the production of a number of crops, including wheat.

A quota on how much you could produce.... and people (excepting Filburn) said ok.  AYE CARUMBA.

I cannot find the article but there was one western farmer looking to add soybeans to his crop mixture so he could make his own fuel. He was prohibited from doing so because of the government requirements for crops grown on his acreage.
