Most of the stuff we got from thrift stores.

I didn't hit the dollar day, but I found these great snow boots at the goodwill store for $4. Beyond that, the only thing we have bought specifically for NH winter has been gloves. We have even worn out a pair or two already. I like to have 2 pair, one lighter and one heavier.

The best coat/jacket:

A caution about U.S. Cav Store, Brigade Quartermaster, Ranger Joe's, Cheaper Than Dirt, etc.: they sell knockoffs right alongside the real stuff, when it might not be the same quality and construction at all. Your link points out that only the woodland pattern is milspec.
You do know that milspec would specify color/camo patters, right?

Finally ordered the 2nd Generation ECWCS Parka (Black, Medium Long) from USCav. It looks like certain sizes/colors ship quicker than others and it says that mine will ship in 24 hours :-D

Also, it looks like the military will be moving away from ECWCS and into what they call APECS (All-Purpose Environmental Clothing System). Not sure if this is just a marketing thing and so that they could spend more money on basically the same stuff...

I'm thinking this:

It's a better acronym....sounds like gen 3 of the same stuff....
Like I said, I use my jacket when it is not cold for a rain coat...

In the army they used to issue wet weather gear.....a rain coat and pants.....I wonder if they will stop issuing that stuff, because the ECWCS/APECS outer layer works fine in the rain....
