Dear Friends:

As you know, it's very hard to collect data about eminent domain abuse, because there doesn't seem to be any central repository for information other than us.  So we're asking you.

We're beginning work on the next installment of "Public Power, Private Gain," which will cover 2003-2005.  As we put this together, we're asking for your information to help us.

In particular, right now we need examples of:

    * Takings from one business to transfer the land to another business (like Walgreens for CVS or small businesses for a Costco)
    * Condemnations of churches or other nonprofit institutions for private development
    * Situations where property was taken for some grandiose development project that never materialized or that opened but failed

If you know of any of these situations, please let us know in the next week or so.  Over the next few months, we will probably write again with other questions.  Our members are our greatest resource, and we want this next report to be as complete as we can make it.

Thank you for your time and your help.

Sincerely,

Dear Friends,

This coming Sunday, March 6, 2005, the CBS network program ?Sunday Morning? is scheduled to run a feature on eminent domain abuse that will spotlight the attorneys and clients of the Institute for Justice.  (We tell you this with the caveat that breaking news can always bump this story, but as it stands now, the feature is scheduled to air on Sunday.)

The program typically airs at 9 a.m. Eastern Time/9 a.m. Pacific Time, but please check your local listings.

We encourage you to tune in and tell your friends!

Sincerely,
