I agree .... I did not worry about the guards hurting me much once I was inside. In the future ... who knows.

Yeah you old people will have it easy. Worst comes to worse, you get to die off in the next few decades ;)

You are not considering the opportunity costs if you think imprisonment was merely inconvenient, Lauren. You were not where you could have been most useful and effective which, of course, is the whole point of imprisonment.

Thats my plan

where most useful and effective?
hmm sometimes hard to know this is

Like Thoreau .... in some ways I look at things differently after 1 day in jail. It can be very useful.
For some people it would be useless and the government would win by throwing them in.
Can you imagine how effective Gandhi would have been if he never went to jail ... or more importantly if he wasn't willing to go to jail?
This is an issue that really separates people. Going to jail might be very good for some to experience ... for others a disaster.

It is fun to watch people progress in their willingness/ability to stand up to the government thugs. They hear/read about civil disobedience ... then observe it (which effects people greatly) .... then slowly participate in it is small ways at first ... then more and more. It has been an interesting journey for me (especially with the support of my family and friends) and will be for many others on this forum. :)

Being individuals, we are always going weigh things differently. I see the loss of Lauren suffered by us, Jim, NH as being greater than the gain for the issue or the little publicity it garnered. She may feel differently and then there is hindsight involved. It should have received more publicity than it did.

None of us should ever be put in jail .... but we don't live in that free of a society yet. :)

Michael Fisher

We need to get better publicity from now on, if at all possible.

It is a waste if someone simply sits in jail.  Those that have been arrested, were supported by others, and quite a bit of publicity.  There are millions in jail for smoking pot, but they have no organized support outside to highlight their imprisonment, or to help them in and out of jail.  That is the power of support.
By any standard, Lauren had more publicity, than any single of the millions sitting in jail for pot.  (it is vital to have moral superiority on your side).
I also think things are going to get worse.  People may sway to and fro on the various political parties, but the underlying belief in the morality of gov't first strike force is at an all time high.  This is The cause of tyranny.
This is why it is vital to focus our efforts.   :)
