Bill to repeal Real ID introduced in the senate

This is a step in the right direction but does not go far enough. It will be enough only when id is no longer required to travel within the US and conduct everyday business. Back in the 60's and 70's no one had a government issued photo id and people were almost never asked for id and we all did just fine. Government and corporations SUCK!!!! id cards suck, power hungry govgoons suck.

You could still get pulled over and asked for a license in the 60s and 70s...
the last state to issue drivers licenses did so in the mid-late 50s.

You could still get a passport too.

You currently need to have an ID, technically to at least...
Drive
Travel with a concealed handgun in the 46 states that issue/allow it
Reenter or exit the country (this was not always reqired back in the day)
Purchase alcohol or cigarettes if you look underage (long required)
do a bunch of other things I cant be bothered to think of

There's not much that's changed in the way of actual requirements, just stringency.

I wasn't issued a photo driver's license until the 80's. There were plenty of times I was stopped and questioned by the pigs in my youth but was never asked to provide ID. In the 70's I opened a bank account and was not asked for a socialist slave number. I bought train tickets without being asked anything but my destination.

It is worth noting that our very own John Sununu from New Hampshire was a co-sponsor of this bill.

IMO, Sununu is by *far* the most libertarian US Senator.

This is so ironic since I just used the DownsizeDC website yesterday to email my Senators and Congressman in regards to Real ID and the wiretapping scandal

The bill was introduced, but since the 109th Congress is closed, it will have to be re-introduced in the 110th Congress.

I wrote John Sununu asking him to do just that.

Sununu is good about personally replying to personal mail, just not form mail. He does take that stuff into consideration.

I'm kind of bummed about this bill because it would deprive NH of the fun of telling the feds to F-off for once.

But doesnt the new D controlled house/senate want to "fully enact the suggestions of the 9/11 committee?"

Ah, well, all of NH is sununu's district, and he's the guy I whine too... along with Judd Greg

Bass was good about it as well. Judd doesn't always reply.
