This story seems right up this groups alley so I thought I'd share....

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4724793.html

Here is the part I find most troubling...

""The voltage is not transferred from one person to another. Therefore, the child would not have been affected by the device," police said."

That is an out right falsehood!  Anyone who's held hands then placed a blade of grass on an electric fence knows that current flows through one person to another.  Also there is a video of a group of volunteers holding arms where one on the end gets tasered... they all feel it.

The father certainly sounds like a bit of an ass with some of the things he said too but to taser a guy with a baby in his arms?  Come on!

The one time I was electrocuted, I had a hold of Kira and we were both hit.

So the father looked like he was leaving with HIS kid, no mention of any objection by mom, and that's somehow an attempted kidnapping???  WTF???  Then some off duty pig tazers the guy, and the guy who got tazered is now being charged with child endangerment???  WTF???

That's some tar and feathers, torch and pitchfork stuff right there!

I hope they do sue - I hope they end up owning 1/2 the hospital & get so much money from the PD the city wont be able to afford 1/2 the force.

You realize that will of course just lead to the city raising taxes on everyone and pointing to the father as the villain which made them do it.

SpeedPhreak

yes i do.  with enough lawsuits like this the taxes can only go so high... a ceiling will be met somewhere, someday... people will rebel or simply move.

Typical of cops. Assault someone and then charge the victim with the crime they committed against him.

It seems that because guns are deadly, police show restraint with them. They seem to be showing little to no restraint with tasers. Now all it seems to take is to defy their authority, even over something "minor" and they'll consider it an excuse to inflict serious pain on you. It's very disturbing.

This is no different from bullies and other violent control freaks throughout history. Only the implements have changed.
