Keene State College

Well, I'm a sophomore at a private (yay!) high school, so I'm beggining to look at colleges. My primary concen is, of course, freedom. Thus, it has come to my attention that I can accomplish several of my goals, such as moving to New Hampshire as a part of the Free State Project, at once. Keene also seems to be a hotbed of political freedom, so to move there would be ideal, go to college there even more ideal, and to go to college and get a job there would be beyond my wildest dreams.

So any information you have about Keene State, the availability of jobs in Keene, and especially the average GPA and SAT scores of people accepted at Keene State would be welcome. My standardized test scores are consistently through the roof, but my GPA sucks due to a lack of effort on things that I'm not interested in.

There was a companion article that talked about the scores and they didn't seem that high.

There are some students from KSC on this forum they could answer your questions.

You sound like every other incredibly smart person I've ever known who's gone through high school, with high test scores and low GPA. Don't let it bother you too much.

Some folks from KSC run Free Minds TV, which I'm sure you'll enjoy. And Free Talk Live is in Keene.

I looked at the average scores and they seem to be well within my capabilities. Thanks for the info...

Also, maybe it would be a good idea to add some stuff about the culture of freedom in Keene to the Wikipedia article? It could get some more exposure for the liberty-loving community.

Keene State is not known for demanding academics. If you can drink heavily, I bet they can make room for you. :)
To me Keene State tuition is a ripoff. Even for residents it is ridiculous for what they offer.
You can get retail jobs in Keene very easily. If you show up on time or at all, you will beat out most of the other students.
Keene is a cute little city and has activity. We have been working to up the friendly nonpolitical activity, but if you are into politics then we have a treadmill available for you here. :)

Prospective students would do well to check the entire University of NH system:

Anyplace in the state is not much more than an hour from any other place.
Go wherever looks good for what you want.

I went through the same thing.  My junior year I finally decided it was time to get straight A's.  My standardized test was the ACT but if the SAT is what colleges out here are looking for, then start prepping now.  If you're not in any extra-curricular activities, you may want to  pick a club or two to join, even if it's something you don't like.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck in wherever you go to school.  There are other colleges in NH too, so I'm sure you'll find something.

Forgot about that aspect of the North, being from Georgia. Is there any college notable for its history program in the general vicinity?

I also got high standardized test scores but a low GPA in high school...  The key in college is really finding something that you love.  Don't worry so much about your GPA (don't slack either) unless you want to try to get into a private college or maybe UNH.

Check out Plymouth too.  You sound pretty intent on Keene, but Plymouth is pretty cool too.  Not really the highest standards to get in, but I've found it to be generally worth my time and money.

Either way, I hope you're able to find something that fits you well, especially if it's in NH.  You'll have the benefit of all the Porcs around if you decide to come to school in NH that none of the other out of state college kids will have.

I went to UNH and it was worth the money for me... I got a good job right after graduation in my field.
