Dallas suburb votes to forbid building owners from renting to illegals

I read about this earlier today and it seems like the most ridiculous thing ever.
First, on enforcement: what are they going to do, insist that every potential renter show the landlord in the presence of a notary their birth certificate or proof of being a citizen or legal alien resident?
Second, this is only in a suburb of Dallas. I picture a lot of landlords losing a lot of business over this. Sucks to be a landlord in that suburb, huh?
Of course, in all likelihood, it's a rich suburb anyway so it's not like any of the illegals could afford to live there anyway.
And what are they going to do? Arrest landlords who rent to illegals? Force landlords to go illegal themselves and not report income to the IRS because it's illegally gained?

It's all pure silliness. They just wanted to make a point, get their names on the news and get to pat themselves on the back saying, "We told you we were hardcore!"

Yes - that's exactly what they'll do. If you rent to a family who doesn't have papers they'll come after you with guns and force you to stop, and if you resist they'll shoot you dead for renting clean affordable housing to someone who doesn't have the right documentation.

With RealID on the way, some of those illegals may actually not be.

I don't like the idea of a "papers please" society. I mean, more than ours already is.

The gov't is more likely to force a fine, and possible property forfeiture.  Fascists.

The government already forces employers to act as tax collectors, why not force landlords to be border patrol?  Texas just loves freedom!

Me thinks the false id manufactuers are about ready to have a steady stream of business.  These politicians think they can manage people the way they manage cattle, just crack the whip and all will comply.  Me thinks the politicians will have many frustrating days in the future.

Hell, I have no idea where you would get a good "fake ID," but I might be interested in knowing.

I'd want an official-looking ID I could use for convenience during civilian transactions, etc., just so I don't have to preach a sermon just to buy a McDeathBurger or fill the car up with fuel - but it turns out that quite a few shops will (apparently) fork over a near duplicate of a current state driver's license for around $200. See this site.

My original plan was just to blow about $7,000 on a badge printer and supplies and make the damned things myself, figuring maybe I could recoup some of the cost by selling similar "Liberty Cards", "Bill of Rights Picture Card", or some such thing to others who had had enough with insecure gov't ID crap.

Looks to be more cost effective just to let one of the established players handle it. Google for "fake ID" - wonder why the gov't doesn't seem to be giving those outfits a hard time... not that I'm complaining.

I once saw one capable of doing the barcodes, holograms and everything on eBay for $5,600. Buy It Now. If I'd had the cash laying around, I just might have done it.

I think the whole concept of a "false" id is crap...
Your "id" is whatever you say it is...whenever and wherever you choose to say it...

If you are living totally "out of the gray zone" then "id" means virtually nothing...

I would also like to recommend Claire Wolfe and Aaron Zelman's book "Out of the Gray Zone" and it's companion website(http://www.rebelfirerock.com/home.html)!  It was a very good read!

I'll start a new topic to promote their book!

Er, I said a good fake ID.

These days that usually requires a hologram, and a means of impressing a particular pattern or texture in the laminate.
