Anyone use Liberty Dollars in NH?

I was wondering how common it is for Liberty Dollars to be used in NH.  Do you use them?  Know of many people who use them?  How do you use them?

The fact that there is a premium to get Liberty Dollars (as opposed to other silver rounds) makes them controversial, even among people who advocate for value-based or free-market currency.  Several years ago I was a minority advocate on the FSP board for LDs, and the fact that there was not more support for them turned me off a bit from the FSP.

I have seen positive mentions of LDs on Free Minds TV and I think on this board, and I was wondering if there is much of a Liberty Dollar movement.

My history with the LD is:

* Met Bernard von NotHaus twice.  Awesome experiences.
* Used the Liberty Dollar in a couple of places around Hillsboro while on vacation, where there were a few Liberty merchants listed (this was around 2001 or so).  One place was the first time they saw it, and the other took it matter-of-factly.
* Used the Liberty Dollar "cold" a few times while I went to grad school in NH, 2002-2003.  It was always accepted, but always in a sort of hesitant way, and I decided I was not comfortable using it with people who did not really know what it was.
* Participated in a Liberty Dollar meetup group last year in MA (where I live now), but that sort of petered out and the meetup group ended.  I've basically just been accumulating them for a while.

I'm not quite the LD evangelical (some would have said shill) I used to be, mostly because I'd now rather keep my LDs and spend the Federal Reserve Notes.  But I'd still love to be in an area where Liberty Dollars are circulated and would go out of my way to frequent stores where I know they are accepted.  The difference is now I'd rather get them in change than spend them.

Please share your experiences with Liberty Dollars in NH.

Jacobus... welcome to the forum.

I was orig negative on the LD (not vocal though)  I have since come around.

I know that many porcs trade goods and services with LDs (I take them).

Also I just heard the other day that many of the local porcs in NH are going to make a BIG push to try and get merchants in and around Manchester to accept them.

If you are a fan of Bernard... watch this board for an announcement coming soon. :)

The organizer of the Merrimack Valley Porcupines meeting announced he will be actively soliciting merchants to accept the LD.

I know folks on this board have several orders of copper liberties (both normal and Ron Paul).

Russell Kanning

I use them as silver ounces. I use them with friends.

Dave Ridley

i use them some.  others here use them more and are trying hard to widen their circulation.

Several of the restaurants on Main Street in Concord take them.
The Barley House takes 'em.

Charles Hampe, the RCO in the area, has signed up around 30 merchants in the Belmont/Laconia area.

Shuvom, Charles, me, and others are starting to ramp up the LD. We now have a website http://nhlibertydollar.com that will list verified merchants and associates. The website is new, and we haven't got many merchants or associates listed yet. If you want to be listed, email me at webmaster@nhlibertydollar.com and be sure to create an account on the website.

Your website is awesome!  I look forward to seeing it filled with content.  Excellent work.

I also see that one of your goals is to maintain a list of merchants that is current, and to periodically check in with the merchants.  I am very glad about that.  In the early days of the Liberty Dollar, an ambitious fellow in Maine collected a bunch of merchants that agreed to accept Liberty Dollars, mostly as small partial payment.  So a few years later, when I vacationed in Bar Harbor, I decided to look up a few of the merchants and see if I could spend some Liberty Dollars.  Unfortunately, the reactions were either "Liberty Dollars?  What are those?" or "Yeah, I seem to remember that, but no one ever used them."

I am a Liberty Associate but live in MA for now.

I'm glad there are people over there using them. I'll have to try to get off of greenbacks when I go over there ;)

I've spent over $200 at The Good Food Conspiracy in Meridith, and it's been hit and miss all over the state. I usually offer a choice "silver or paper/non-Federal no-Reserve Notes, and I always make sure the merchants understand that it's not legal tender but that you can spend it anywhere it is voluntarily accepted. If they don't take the LD, I've still got the silver, they've got the shaft. We need to keep offering it and accepting, not wait till "everyone else" does it.

I see that you moved... welcome to NH!

Do any merchants offer silver as change?  If not, why not?
