How much are you looking to spend? I was going to sell my laptop later in the year, but I might be talked into getting rid of it now. Plus, you get a nice collection of liberty-oriented stickers already attached! ;D

Actually I can't let go of it until I have its replacement lined up, which will be early September, but the stats on it look like this:

Gateway MX6453 15.4" Widescreen Laptop
Windows Vista Home Premium
AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-52 1.6 GHz Processor
2 GB 533 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
160GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
15.4" LCD Widescreen 1280x800
ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 Graphics
DVD+/-RW Multi-Format Double Layer (up to 8.5 GB) CD/DVD Writer
Media card reader
Built-in Ethernet and Wi-Fi
A bunch more specifications...

Originally cost $1000 back in January. I'm looking for about $700 now, which is about what I would get off eBay. I might also take an ounce of gold. ;D

Wow, nice!  Much more than I'm looking for, though.  ^-^  Was looking to spend up to ~$300.

Oh, I wasn't trying to negotiate with him.

I think Dan has picked up some used laptops lately that might fit the bill for you. He mentioned something about it Saturday night. You might send him a PM in case he misses this thread. :)

I have them, and I intend to hand them out.  But they are all 300MHz machines, sub 10GB hard drives, and incapable of even youtube.

These machines have a pre-9/11 mindset.  They have a pre Y2K mindset.

They will, however, run Windoze 98 and MS Office (of some vintage), will they not? :)

I could use one like that. For most things it would work for me. :)

Dell was recently selling brand new notebooks for $600, so one would think the market for used ones will be within that price range.

Dan

Wal Mart ( I know not so loved by all ) has 1.5GHz embedded VIA cpu laptops for $350.

Everyday, on a corner near you.  Vista installed.

I'm installing Xubuntu (a linux distro made for low-end by gone computers ).  One has a spot of bad ram soldered to the motherboard which requires acrobatics to get around.

If you don't get a fairly new one, with the capacity built in, make sure it will take a card for WiFi access.

Dan

WiFi cards are $10 delivered on eBay.  :)
