Disable hover click?

I don't know exactly what it's called, but on newer windows laptops (and maybe other machines, I don't know) when you hover over a link too long, it acts like you've clicked on it.  It's driving me nuts...how do you turn that off?

Which browser are you using?

I use Firefox (1.x, but I'm sure the latest 2.x will do just fine) with the "NoScript" extension. So many annoyances are *poof* gone! (Popups, flash ads, webpage traps, etc. - no worky!) If a web page doesn't work, I can enable scripts just for that page with two clicks.

If you don't already have it, check out http://getfirefox.com and http://noscript.net :)

A quick search for "hover click" doesn't seem to bring up anything useful. Does this happen with any hyperlink? If so, which browser are you using? You could try turning off Javascript under your browser's options menu - there are some nasty abuses one can do with a JS-enabled client...

Another thought: if the mouse still hover-clicks with JS disabled in your browser, turn JS back on, then check under Control Panel > Mouse, looking for a setting which may control that effect.

opera, but we're having the problem in other browsers too

If you're using the laptop touch pad it may be the "tap to click" feature.

In that case, spanning multiple browsers, I'd definitely check the "Mouse" settings under the "Control Panel". Not sure what the option might be called, but it's likely know-it-when-you-see-it.

Are you using a laptop, Kat? Does that mean that your router didn't work?

I think there is an option somewhere for disabled computer users that would cause this. Accessibility options or some such in the control panel.
I'm not certain though, I switched to Macs a while back.

Laptop:  yes.  Router: no.

I'm thinking my problem was mostly operator error.  ::)

if your touch pad has an "advanced settings" option, there may be one which makes it click something if it hovers for over a certain amount of seconds...very annoying!

tap to click is the worst thing ever as well...I ALWAYS accidentally click!

Kat Kanning

I think I was accidentally tapping cause I'd leave my finger on the pad.

"Tap to click" is the first thing I disable on a laptop.

It's most likely in Control Panel, under Mouse, in a Touchpad tab.

I love it. If it doesn't work, then I generally think something's broken or the touchpad is a piece of crap.
