Local Troops Deploy To Nation's Capital

POSTED: 12:20 pm EDT August 22, 2007

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Members of the 1st Battalion 265 Air Defense Artillery have mobilized and are on a plane headed first to Ft. Bliss, then for federal active duty in the capital region.

The troops will be deployed for a year.

"It's going to be all right It's OK if he helps people and everything, and it's his job. He's got to do it. He just got to do it," Jessica Ward said, whose father is being deployed.

Jessica speaks for many when she talks about her father's deployment.

Michael Ward and company are leaving for a year, and that weighs heavy on families.

The 265th is part of Operation Noble Eagle.

They are ordered by the president to the nation's capital, where they will operate high-tech weapons systems against any potential air threat.

Yolanda McCormack is relieved husband Charles isn't headed to Iraq, but there is always a risk.

"Doesn't mean he won't be in the line of fire in Washington, D.C., but it does give me a little comfort," Yolanda McCormack said, whose husband is being deployed.

Families may get one or two opportunities to see loved ones during this year-long deployment, but it's not encouraged. Though the solders are staying in the states, they are on serious business.

Staff Sgt. James Todd said duty at home is just as important as the mission overseas.

Sounds like Patriot missiles.

Here's a link I found of people discussing this latest deployment.  It kind of makes me wonder what coming down the road that they need to do this. :-\
I thought Operation Noble was the name of the latest terror training drills they did over in Washington State, am I right?

The 265th is a Florida Air National Guard Unit. Air National Guard units from various parts of the country have been deployed (and rotated) on a regular basis to the DC area since 9/11. At various times, the troops deployed have been from North Dakota, Virginia, and other locations. The suggestions that this has anything to do with Iran or with intimidating Congress are among the stupidest things I've seen on DU in a while (which is saying something).

Here's a link about an earlier deployment: http://www.ngb.army.mil/news/archives/2006/12/121306-Ca...

(and for those that wonder, Operation Clear Skies is a part of Operation Noble Eagle (Operation Noble Eagle is the "umbrella" for a variety of operational activities relating to domestic security, post 9/11).

Puke

When I was in Savannah, Georgia after SEP 11 2001 the 160th SOAR unit there on Hunter Army Airfield had Nat. Guard units deployed there in order to fill in for all the guys deploying to Afghanistan.
The Guard often deploy inside the US in order to conduct training or help in disaster stuff.

Air National Guard troops aren't going to be doing any patrols. That isn't what they normally do. Tom Sawyer is most likely correct that it probably involves some form of radar installations and missile defense crap.

However, never trust the bastards.

The Posse Comitatus Act actually restricts the federal government use of the military far less than a lot of people seem to think. The other important law here is the Insurrection Act, which they already gutted in 2006.

QuoteIt kind of makes me wonder what coming down the road that they need to do this.

They need to keep DC secure.  When they reinstate the draft and conscription of
soldiers, people will raise hell.  Watch Bush test the waters, and the angry reaction
of the crowd before he changes his statement:

Did you see all of those people cheering for him on the video you posted?  Can't people see how they've been getting shafted and now your right they'll probably get drafted.  Sorry, I'm a poet and I know it! :)

My best friend loves Bush, she admits he speaks like an idiot but that's it.  I know the golden rule don't speak politics with friends and stuff but her and I talk about it a lot and we don't fight we just don't understand each other's view points.

The only time I got into an argument with another  friend of mine over politics was because she was cramming her beliefs down my throat and putting me down for mine.  She's the one that said she loves the fact that Bush doesn't believe in abortion and I shut her up by saying, oh no but he believes in sending troops to Iraq to kill innocent Iraqi babies." ::)

Even when I was a Bush supporter, which wasn't terribly long ago, my excuse was that he wasn't as bad as Kerry. Isn't that how they keep shafting us though? They gives us to shitty choices and then each side is trying to convince us how the opponent is soooooo much shittier.

As long as the voting machines are being tampered with all votes are wasted.
