I have used a bedside security device when I had to chase away an intruder.  It was a 12 guage shotgun that was made about 94 years ago, but still worked quite effectively.  Fortunately the noise of me loading a shell while I was running toward him was enough to make him decide that he didn't want to stay in my apartment any longer.

I assume this works for the British (note the *.uk domain). Since they've outlawed handguns, absolutely no one has a handgun over there, right?

The "law-abiding" do not. The criminals have all sorts of weapons at their disposal, including guns.

Oh, I know that. That was like the "Remember when we had that War on Drugs—and now there are no drugs anymore?" snark I've given people few times before. ;)
