he.net will allow for the homepage, but not for the forums.  Kat will need to get he.net to add zones for nhfree.com and nhunderground.com and then Ian can point the DNS resolution to he.net's nameservers.  If you're using the $9.95 a month package it looks like they might only allow 1 alias, but I'm not sure.

Until then best to stick with webforward.

Okay.. I have reset the forwarding on nhfree.com , however I am leaving nhunderground.com pointing at the IP in hopes that a slight sense of urgency will help this project get done!  Plus, we'll also be easily able to tell when they start accepting the requests, because nhunderground.com will automatically start working correctly.  Then I will switch back nhfree.com to the IP.

Thanks for the effort, guys.

JonM

Just call or email he.net support and tell them you've got two domains you want as aliases to your current domain and could they please add them to their DNS servers.  It's not something you can likely do without their help.

FTL_Ian

Specifically you need for it to accept requests from:

http://nhfree.com
http://www.nhfree.com
http://nhunderground.com
http://www.nhunderground.com

And point them to your tiki page

and also from:

http://forum.nhfree.com
http://forum.nhunderground.com

And point them to your forum index.

Hi,

Our admin system does not have the capability of domain aliasing.  You
may either create two accounts and use the Apache redirect directive to
redirect webtraffic to your soulawakenings.com domain, and have both
mail and web service on all the domains.  Or have the DNS for the other
two domains be handled somewhere else and point the to the IP of
soulawakenings.com (66.160.132.20).  The only constraint with the
latter
solution is that it only covers web traffic, the other domains will not
be able to receive mail traffic since our servers would not recognize
them as valid domains.

Thank you,

You could decide on one of the 3 to be the main domain and switch to that as the primary, or switch to an ISP that provides domain aliasing.  I don't see an option in SMF for alias domains, but if you want, you can try changing the forum url to forum.nhunderground.com and see if you can get to that url, then switch it back.  You'd need to be in the shell to do this in case something goes fubar.

If all this is too much a hassle, I could talk to Torgo about hosting the sites on the FTL dedicated server... let me know

Kat Kanning

No thanks.  It is all too much hassle.  I don't want to move.

And not that big a deal, from my experience.

Yeah, the whole nhfree/nhunderground/soulawakenings think might throw a few people off, but by starting at whichever they choose to start, the forums are easily accessed.

Not really.  If you start with the nhfree.com or nhunderground.com url, your address bar never updates, which can be a pain if you wanted to send someone a link to what you were looking at.

Russell Kanning

some of us can work around that too ..... it isn't perfect .... but it works :)

FTL_Ian

Yes, without being able to directly point the domains at your IP and have your server process them correctly, the site looks very unprofessional.  It functions, but can be confusing to some people.

Okay, well in regards to his 2nd suggestion, the DNS for nhfree.com and nhunderground.com IS being handled by ZoneEdit.  All we care about is web traffic so, that's fine.  Let him know that his second option is the case, and ask if he can point the requests in the right direction.  Or just have him email me directly at ian@freetalklive.com .  All they have to do is change a few settings.  All of this is really easy!

Russell Kanning

We like the unprofessional look.

JonM

The problem might be with SMF, but I'm not sure.
