I hope I didn't offend anybody
If you don't offend at least one or two of us, then you're not like the rest of us ;)

Syndicating FSB on the FSP site would be a good first step, no?
I don't think it would hurt and would not oppose such a move.

David

What part of ohio are you from?  I'm from columbus.  Moved this last feb.  welcome to the forum.   :)

dan_sayers

Well, I used to live in Oregon, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo. Thanks to the unlawful acts of their police force, I was "forced" to leave my home town of 30 years and now live on the other side of Toledo.

I need everybody's help. I've been on a kind of high since I found out about NH's freedom and the FSP. Earlier tonight, I looked up apartment costs and entry level position wages. I've been crushed. Demoralized. Wages are about as they are out here, but apartment costs are about double what they are here.  :'(

Many people get roommates when they move out here. :)

David

I have a brother that live close to downtown toledo.  Small world.  I suppose it depends on what your job is, but the nh area and new england area in general are supposed to pay better that ohio.  The property prices in ohio are very low.  In fact, too low, I was also shocked by how expensive housing is here.  Anything that has to do with land and property will be disproportionately expensive due to the heave reliance on property taxes.  It is always the first culture shock folks have when looking to move.  Anyplace with a lot of competition, (cities) will have more affordable housing.  don't get too discouraged.  I moved, and I work in restaurants.

At the risk of drawing boos from the crowd, I currently "work" as a Security Officer/Private Investigator.

Nothing wrong with that IMO; I cant fault anyone defending those, who can't defend themselves, so no booing from me.

- Alot of porcs, when they first move, share rooms.  If that's for you, it could be nice living in a house full of freedom lovers until you get more established.

Just make sure you all have the same idea about what freedom means before you make such a living arrangement. ;)

I'm in a similar position myself, so your not alone Dan. It can be a real challenge for some of us, just never give up. Anything good is worth waiting for. ( at least thats what I keep telling myself ...   ;D  )

Welcome.  And hey, you could consider bringing your Dad with you, right?  :)

Just an idea.  I'm working on dragging half my extended family with me.  They might not be activists, but they're votes!

Given the time in NH they might become activists.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I had a question. I visited nhliberty.org and clicked on 2007 House/Senate Liberty Ratings. The reports there are not good. If I were to go by that alone, it would appear NH is falling down. Lifejackets? Mandatory seatbelts? Anytime the government tries to do something "for your own good," it's wrong.

But the cream of the crop is the smoking ban. Can somebody give me the details of these measures? Part of the reason I'm fed up with the state I'm in is the recently passed smoking ban. I don't smoke. But I refuse to be a part of a citizenry using the government as an ideological weapon against those who behave as they don't.

Somebody please tell me I'm just wrongfully judging those books by their covers.

This may be the freest state around, but there's still a lot of work to be done.

David

Yes, you are.  Nh is almost as statist as the rest of the country.  They are restricted in how much damage they can do (the gov't doesn't have as much money as other states), but they can still do damage.  I would strongly suggest you visit the fsp liberty forum in I believe november.  Seeing is believing.  Coming from ohio, were the liberty movement is dead, and coming here, is the best thing I've done in a while.  Based on what I hear about in other states, I believe nh leads the liberty movement right now.  The monthly manchester meeting was bringing in about 70 people average.  The Keene area meet n greet is bringing in about 20, not bad for a smaller area.

Dan, what you're seeing is a short-term blip. In a fit of temper against GWB and the Iraq war, too many NH voters threw out the baby with the bath water by voting a straight "D" ticket in 2006. For the first time in... well, practically forever, Democrats now hold the Governorship, the Executive Council, and both chambers of the General Court (Senate and House).

The Democrats have run giddy (with a few exceptions, like FSPer Joel Winters, who was elected to the House as a Democrat). They made wildly exaggerated predictions of projected tax revenue, and then ignored even their own inflated predictions. They allocated non-existent funds to all sorts of programs, and now are crying that the money isn't there, so they might have to seek new sources of funding, like an income or sales tax.

Some, incredibly, are still parroting the party line that "All is well!"

Okay, that's the short-term blip. Long term reality is that rock-ribbed Yankee Republicanism will return.

Don't let the blips deter you. New Hampshire has the best chance of any state to reverse those trends. NH has the best population:representative ratio in the world, at roughly 3,000:1, and those reps are keenly aware of what their constituents want, because those constituents are their friends and neighbors. Unlike states with full time professional legislators, NH reps are only paid $100 per year, plus mileage. They are true citizen legislators.

C'mon up. I don't even care if you beat me "home" while I'm still stuck in Texas. New Hampshire needs you. America needs you to be in NH. Liberty needs you, and all other Liberty lovers, to take a stand, and NH is the best place to dig in and fight.

Just come "home" to New Hampshire.

Kevin

Oh, believe me, in my book, the opting out of Real ID is a HUGE positive.

NH is still the only state in the union without a mandatory seat belt law
Wait, what? I'm confused. According the to PDF recap, it said that HB208 Mandatory Seatbelts was passed. While it may be a minor issue, I think it's a fair barometer of a jurisdiction's A) willingness to legislate morality and/or try to overpower a decision that belongs to the individual and B) a desire to collect money by unjustified means. So which is it? Did it in fact pass or not?

Thanks to Mr. Craig for being a continual source of inspiration. I DO want to come to NH. There are considerable roadblocks. And since I CAN be hastey in such decisions, I'm trying to use my lack of ability to be hastey about this to researching my decision to make sure it is in fact the right decision.

@David: I'm interested in the fact that you came from Ohio to NH. As you've stated, the liberty movement is most certainly dead here. I live in a state of government/police apologists. Not at all pleasant and certainly not conducive to progress. I'd like to hear more of your story if you wouldn't mind, particularly of your involvement with Ohio's efforts. Here or by PM, your choice. It would carry a bit more weight with me I would think to hear the story from somebody who came from where I'm trying to escape.

Thanks to everybody for the turnout :)

[EDIT]
Quick question. Who's in charge of http://forum.freestateproject.org ? The reason I ask is because I registered there a few days ago. I've never received an activation email. Not even after I clicked on the link to send out a second one. I wasn't sure if their SMTP was buggered or if in fact I managed to type in the wrong email address. I'd like to know who to get in contact with to remedy this situation. Thanks.
